Día De Muertos Sugar Skull Necklace

$175.00

Sugar skulls are often used to decorate the gravestones of the deceased during the Mexican holiday of 'Day of the Dead'.

These sugar skulls are very colourful and whimsical, not scary at all.

The idea of this tradition is that the Mexican families choose to celebrate the lives of their dearly departed friends and relatives as an opposite to most cultures that tend to mourn the dead.

In terms of meaning, the skull symbolizes death but in a positive manner. In Mexico it is believed that death is not the final stage in one’s life but rather a step forward into a higher level of conscience.

  • Handcrafted in Sterling Silver.
  • Hung on 60cm (24 inch) Sterling Silver chain.
  • Skull is approximately 3cm tall x 1.5cm wide
  • Note: Each item is 100% handcrafted and made to order in our New Zealand workshop. Although we strive to get orders made as soon as possible, it may take 1-2 weeks before the item is shipped.
